  Dear Marla,

I discovered a small collection of books in the library on shamanism. They were down in bottom shelf behind the big reading chair, which is why I did not see them until now.

I've been reading "The Way of the Shaman" by Michael Harner. He talks about the idea of "core" shamanism. This is where you strip away all of the cultural baggage to find the common elements that are found in all shamanism. He calls it "core shamanism".

Basically, a shaman is a "technologist of ASC's" (Altered States of Consciousness). He skillfully "journeys" to other realities using hallucenogenic substances, drumming, chanting, sweating, etc. to acquire knowledge, power or help heal someone else. It should be noted, however, that, while shamanism is usually associated with healing someone else, self-healing is also common.

Most shaman have a "guardian spirit". In most tribal cultures, this spirit is usually an animal such as a bear, bird, or bat, etc.

  Or a tree?

Fetishamanism - The Quest for RubberFLOW (i.e.RubberHome - it's where I am supposed to be.)

o A "Fetishaman" is one who employs the urgency and energy of her fetish to attain - at will - the hidden reality of "RubberFLOW, the place where I am supposed to be".

o Healer (of thyself); not sorcerer.

  o Heal my rubber "urge"?

o My "spirit animal" is my fetish.
